Winter Wilderness Weekend

february 4-5th, 2023 Graubunden

"To appreciate the beauty of a snowflake it is necessary to stand out in the cold."

Snow shoeing in the region of Graubunden means immersing yourself into wild landscapes, getting to know local life and enjoy local food.

Submerge into the Swiss back country life, wilderness, allow yourself to get away from the hustle & bustle - join us to experience awe and adventure during this 2 day experience at a very special and historical place.

We will walk for 4-5 hours every day snow shoeing and enjoying wild landscapes. Each day we will make 5-8km with 400-600m+ of elevation gain. This experience is suitable for medium level hikers or beginners with good fitness condition. But as always in those trips- mindset and motivation are the most important elements.

Welcome to a winter fairy tale!

Before going up the valley to the hut, we will visit Guarda village.

High above the Inn, far away from the valley road and the railway line, Guarda shines like a beacon in the sun. It fascinates and captivates visitors like an open treasure chest: Selina Chönz and Alois Carigiet were inspired by the village of 200 people as early as 1945 and created the story of Schellen-Ursli here.

In 1975 Guarda received the Wakker Prize for its intact village image. And for decades now, city-dwellers with grandiose ideas have been drawn here - out of fascination for the model village of Romanesque culture and tradition. With a great sense of authenticity and passionate craftsmanship, the residents make the fascination tangible for all the senses.

Many houses are more than 400 years old in the village.

About the Outing Leader

IMG_20210121_164209 (1).jpg
Ruta, mountain leader, nature therapy guide & coach

Ruta did her first hike back in 2013- she then realized that the real life is not happening in the indoor- office environment but rather outside.

This made her realize that she was missing something important in her life- connection with Nature. Since then, most of her time she spends outside- climbing, hiking, wild camping, walking in the forests, parks and other natural places. She has become hiking ‚guru‘ and is now passionate to share the most beautiful places in the Swiss Alps with the others. Retreat participants often say that Ruta's passion for Nature is contagious.

Ruta is a professional mountain leader ( Association of Mountain Guides in Switzerland), neuro-coach (Neuroleadership Institute, London), and forest therapy guide (Association of Nature and Forest Therapy, USA).

By creating Be Outside Coaching movement, she has connected her 2 major passions: activities outside and human development. Be Outside Coaching delivers immersive and holistic Nature experiences in the different corners of pristine the Swiss Alps.
