Grand Saint Bernard Weekend
March 5-6th, 2022 Valais
"To appreciate the beauty of a snowflake it is necessary to stand out in the cold."
ARISTOTLE

Experience the magic of the winter in the Swiss Alps.
We’ll stay in a unique mountain accommodation in the heart of the Swiss Alps, surrounded by giant mountain peaks while enjoy a great variety of snowshoe hikes along beautiful panoramic trails.
This 2-day experience is packed with joy and adventure. You will join a small group of individuals, families and friends and enjoy being part of a memorable winter holiday experience.
It is the perfect opportunity to relax, have fun, enjoy a unique Swiss mountain experience, and share your passion of nature and hiking with new friends.

We will stay in a mountain refuge at an altitude of 2473 m, what was built in the Middle Ages by Augustine monks whose hospitality is legendary for providing sanctuary for hikers, pilgrims and passing guests.
After settling down, during the afternoon you can visit the church and the treasure of the refuge, participate in meditation/ yoga practice (to be updated once we have the agenda fixed) or just stroll around, enjoy the scenic view of surrounding mountain peaks, breath in the fresh air and immerse yourself in the beauty and calmness of the Swiss Alps.
In the evening, you will have the opportunity to get to know your new friends better over dinner.
The St-Bernard dogs were bred here by the monks, to rescue travelers caught in storms or got exhausted by effort and winter conditions during their ascent to the pass.
According to the legends, the most famous dog of all time is Barry, who saved the life of more than 40 people! However, the breeding of the Saint-Bernard dogs is moved to Martigny some time ago, and they return to their original homeland to spend only the summers in the St-Bernard Pass, you will have a possibility to meet these fascinating dogs in Sunday afternoon after we return to Martigny.
The second day we do another scenic snowshoe hike (500m-, 300m+, 6km) before we start our descend back to the starting point of our trip and finally catch the bus back to Martigny.
Before headed home, you can visit Barryland and meet the dogs of St Bernard.

About the Outing Leader

Retreat participants often say that Ruta's passion for Nature is contagious.
Ruta is a professional mountain leader ( Association of Mountain Guides in Switzerland), neuro-coach (Neuroleadership Institute, London), and forest therapy guide (Association of Nature and Forest Therapy, USA).
By creating Be Outside Coaching movement, she has connected her 2 major passions: love for nature & outdoors and human development. Be Outside Coaching delivers immersive and holistic Nature experiences in the different corners of pristine the Swiss Alps.

Meet Ruta
Ruta did her first hike back in 2013- she then realized that the real life is not happening in the indoor- office environment but rather outside.
This made her realize that she was missing something important in her life- connection with Nature. Since then, most of her time she spends outside- climbing, hiking, wild camping, walking in the forests, parks and other natural places. She has become hiking ‚guru‘ and is now passionate to share the most beautiful places in the Swiss Alps with the others.

,Ruta is a fabulous guide and retreat host. She's friendly and super caring. She knows very well what she is doing, wants to provide and what to do. I enjoy doing hiking without worrying about which direction to take, when to take my train, and all the planning. I trust that everyone will have soul-opening and mind-boggling experience with Ruta if you let her kindly take your hands and lead you into the woods or over the hills., Trinh Nguyen
