Back to Times 3 days Snow Shoeing experience
January 19-21th, 2024 engadine
"To appreciate the beauty of a snowflake it is necessary to stand out in the cold."
ARISTOTLE

Snow shoeing in the region of Engadine means immersing yourself into wild landscapes, getting to know local life and enjoy local food.

Submerge into the Swiss back country life, wilderness, allow yourself to get away from the hustle & bustle - join us to experience awe and adventure during this 3 day experience at a very special and historical place.

We will walk for 4-5 hours every day snow shoeing and enjoying wild landscapes. Each day we will make 5-8km with 400-600m+ of elevation gain. This experience is suitable for medium level hikers or beginners with good fitness condition. But as always in those trips- mindset and motivation are the most important elements.

Welcome to a winter fairy tale!

Val Sinestra - unique, authentic, timeless
Hof Zuort is a historic hamlet at the end of Val Sinestra in the Lower Engadine. The inn and stable, chalet and chapel have been preserved as an ensemble in form and function, and today the farm is the quietest Swiss Historic Hotel in Grisons. Historically furnished guest rooms are located in the original farmhouse as well as in a chalet built at the end of the 19th century. The restaurant is to be found in the farmhouse, the sheltered veranda and the sunny terrace on the house’s south side.

Five kilometres of path through shady forest and ravine, and suddenly you step out of dark firs into the clearing. Peace and quiet reign in the contemplative morning hours and at sunset even on the terrace of the much-frequented inn. No artificial light disturbs the starry sky at night. The proximity of the mighty spruce and larch forest, and at the same time the distant view through the untouched valley to the mountain horizon of the Lower Engadine, make you marvel and reflect.

Simple life at a high level: daily hospitality, well-kept accommodation and self-sufficient agriculture have been the programme in Zuort – formerly a hospice on the old trade route from the Engadine to Paznaun – since time immemorial. The grandeur of the place becomes a very personal experience.

an exceptional place to stay
This authentic medieval mountain shelter has been a member of the Swiss Historic Hotel group since October 2012.
The Guesthouse/Hof and the Chalet are kept in original Tirolese and Belle-Epoque style.
The guesthouse enchants with Austrian ceilings and panelling, rustic and historicist furniture of the Belle Époque. In the chalet, you will find original furniture from a hundred years ago, bathrooms with modern comforts, but also historic washbasins in the rooms!
It's comfortable to lie in soft foreign feathers, particularly when the cosy view meets nothing but snow-covered landscape, starry skies and pine shadows on a moonlit blanket of snow

nature in val sinistra
The intact unity of fauna and flora still exists here: roe deer, red deer, ibex and chamois can all be observed with the appropriate patience and optics.
The bearded vulture can be observed regularly from Zuort, often in pairs. What a sublime witness to the careful reparation of its extinction over a hundred years ago. On the mountain horizon, you can also experience the repeated wave flights of the golden eagle in spring: the male marks his territory - unmistakably for conspecifics. Or he circles a hundred metres above the chalet terrace during breakfast. In this thermal from the sunlit rock faces of the Val Sinestra, he disappears from the unarmed eye after minutes as a dot in the sky.

The forest is sublime and omnipresent. Its shady green pastures between the trunks make you pause and listen. Centuries-old mighty larches with their brown-red furrowed trunks symbolise today the importance of the naturally grown environment, touched by human hands with restraint at best.

About the Outing Leader

Ruta, mountain leader, nature therapy guide & coach
Ruta did her first hike back in 2013- she then realized that the real life is not happening in the indoor- office environment but rather outside.
This made her realize that she was missing something important in her life- connection with Nature. Since then, most of her time she spends outside- climbing, hiking, wild camping, walking in the forests, parks and other natural places. She has become hiking ‚guru‘ and is now passionate to share the most beautiful places in the Swiss Alps with the others. Retreat participants often say that Ruta's passion for Nature is contagious.
Ruta is a professional mountain leader ( Association of Mountain Guides in Switzerland), neuro-coach (Neuroleadership Institute, London), and forest therapy guide (Association of Nature and Forest Therapy, USA).
By creating Be Outside Coaching movement, she has connected her 2 major passions: activities outside and human development. Be Outside Coaching delivers immersive and holistic Nature experiences in the different corners of pristine the Swiss Alps.
